Life through the Lens - Bastiram

'Life through the Lens' started in 2011, since then four photography projects have taken place. The aim of the project is for two weeks volunteers (who all have a background in photography) teach basic camera skills to the boys aged 14-17 years old. They explore different camera techniques allowing the boys to share their lives in a just and empowering way.
Many of the boys from the home leave with little employment opportunities such as working in the local marble mines, a hazardous job involving numerous health risks. It is hoped that by being provided with the opportunities to learn real skills, alongside learning English through our year-round teaching projects, these boys will be in a better position to gain employment in the local tourist industry.
